The reality that teens experiment with drugs is generally accepted. Not much attention has been given to this issue. Teens who are active in drug abuse do not, for the most part, consider it a problem. Seeing as how they have used for quite some time they may be fooled into thinking that there are no dangers or consequences resulting from their habit. Cancer does not just show up full-blown out of nowhere, it builds up. Just like the behavior of active drug users. Your life does not fall apart after one hit or one sip. Its a progressive process. Very few kids who get into it early on kick the habit early. Unfortunately for most, the drugs have to bring them to their knees for them to realize its harmful effects. The worst part about this is that that idea seems unfathomable to those who use because they feel like they are "getting by." There is a lack of knowledge on addiction in most teens, which may have to do with the carelessness in their behavior. The vast number of kids using is growing and that is a bad sign for our future. The lack of emphasis and concern on teen drug use will be detrimental to our society if it keeps up.
This topic catches my interest because of my own personal experiences with it. When I see kids using it reminds me about how I used to be. It took me 13 months in a therapeutic community to change my mind about that life style. It no longer appeals to me. By doing this project I hope to bring to light the risks of engaging in drug related activities. I feel that this is an important topic because the future of our youth and by the same token, our nation will be at risk if this issue is not dealt with. Just like AIDS in the 70s was disregarded, which later went on to become a major pestilence in our society, this can be the next. Nothing was done to prevent it then, now we are dealing with its consequences. If we disregard this and it grows will it be too late? This is something we all see around us anywhere we go. This is the reality that we are living in and everyone needs to be aware if this. The more aware we are the better chance we have to bring an end to this. The deeper someone gets into his or her addiction the harder it is to stop. This is why teens are a primary group to educate on the matter. Helping them from going that route early on can keep doors to their future open. Its a lot worse when youre 30 years old trying to kick a habit and then getting your life back together. A teen has his or her whole life ahead of them. Its a shame when there options are limited because of the choices they decided to make. Whether its because they had no ambition or motivation, or they were locked up somewhere which is typical of people involved with that kind of lifestyle. Also, typically, most stoners have the tendency to isolate themselves from society. They no longer find it interesting to do things they used to. They like to be secluded amongst themselves. Becoming anti-social is a common effect of abusing drugs.
A large majority of teenagers in high school smoke marijuana and indulge in other drugs. The problem with this is that if this is going on across the nation how do you think our future will look? So many different types of people are using. People you would not expect regardless of what stereotype may be casted upon them, nerd, jock, outcast, etc... not only do they use, some also deal.
