My main interests are Music, Magic, and Mystery.
I love reading about Mysterious Places like the Pyramids in Egypt, Stonehenge in England, and tons of places in between.
My favorite bible verse is Genesis 6 where it speaks of the Nephilim, the "sons of god" who roamed the earth and were quite fond of the "daughters of men". Who were these "supermen" of old??
Where did they come from??? Where did they go??
It seems to me that we see their handicraft echoed in the great civilizations of the past.
I am married to Carol,
a wonderful woman who really should be a comedian except I won't let her because I would be the subject of most of her jokes.
I have two truly great kids:
Daniel who is 15, handsome and brilliant,in gifted classes in High School and wears a size 17 shoe...
and Jonathan, age 11, who is quite a gifted sports allstar, handsome and brilliant in his own right!!! He blows me away with some of the "out of the box" questions he asks...
Daniel plays in his High School's Orchestra. He went to London, and Paris with the ensemble last Spring break.
Jonathan plays Baseball, Basketball and Football for the Brookwood Athletic Association. Last year his team placed second in the county, and played in the Championship game.
I am coaching his 12 year old football team this year. Last basketball season I was blessed to coach a team with some truly fantastic kids and we won the league championship...Woohoo!
I am 1/32 American Indian (isn't everyone?) and I truly yearn for the days when western civilization and it's gift of innovation can shed it's chains of conquest and adopt the eastern (and Native American) philosophy of living in harmony with the land, and of respect for Nature and the spiritual. Once we do that I believe we are truly headed for a golden age.
I became a talented percussionist in Jr. and Sr. High School, thanks to the training I received from Jack Mattison in Jacksonville Florida. I was first chair All-State Band in Percussion. I loved listening to Avant Garde Music back then and my favorite composers were Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Krystof Penderecki. In college I got to meet Mr. Pendercki when he did a travelling professorship at my school. That was cool!!! I told him I loved his piece "Utrenja" and he corrected my pronunciation.
I studied percussion in College with Gary Werdesheim at FSU, then with Jack Bell and Mark Yancich at GSU.
I listened to a lot of Yes, King Crimson (go Bruford), Family, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Strawbs, Led Zeppelin, the Guess Who, U.K., Gentle Giant, and Mothers Finest back in High School and College.
I really love to write music.
I also studied Theatre/ Acting and Directing while at FSU. At the time FSU was considered one of the top 3 theatre schools in the Nation! I helped start The Moving Company, which was highly experimental in my day. Now I think it is a children's Theatre group.
I have been doing theater lately...I have recently played Branislav in "Everything you really need to know you learned in Kindergarten" and Doc in "If the good lord's willin' and the creek don't rise" as well as The Wizard in "Once Upon a Mattress".
When my son Daniel was 5, he got a magic set for Christmas. He asked me to show him a few tricks. I said "I can't do that, I don't know any", so he asked me to learn some which I did. I did them for his friends and the family, and everyone said "wow, you're pretty good" so I kept learning trix and Magic snuck into my life.
Music is real magic, it does so much good for people, they have fun, they dance, they laugh, they get together, they heal. I read Mickey Hart's book "Drumming at the Edge of Magic" and I thought I should do this. Now I do when I am given the chance.
When I'm not doing family stuff, coaching, music, or magic, I also edit video tape at CNN, trying to crack the glass ceiling that separates me from writing, reporting, and producing.
You'll see my work on CNN's "Travel Now", "Science and Technology Week", "Your Health", and sometimes "Earth Matters". We also do daily run pieces for Medical and Science.
I went to China and Bali for CNN in 2000 and I have an online journal which I am getting ready to post. Stop back and read it...I'll post it in "Words".
I also write for TravelGirl Magazine.
