MxPx
the everpassing moment

Not only are these boys from the Northwest but they play some pretty good music. Tonight I just bought the new "Ever Passing Moment" and I'm pretty pleased! This cd is great sounding and the lyrics reel me in even more. I don't think anyone can accuse these guys of going mainstream. No, they don't talk about God all the time, consistently, or in all their songs. But small things let me know their faith is alive and kickin'. Let me give you a few examples off the new cd.

Let's start at the beginning. The first song with reference is "Buildings Tumble" the second track. The chorus starts with the line "Let the weak say I am strong" which is what I relate to an old church song I know. The song continues later with saying "It's highly time, throw down your wine, put foolish things away. Don't forget, prepare your set, be true to your own way." On track number 8, "The Next Big Thing", Mike Herrera sings about the musical image, and people recreating themselves to be who these music stars tell them to be. "Foolish", the next track seems to be the track that says 'This is my Christianity and you can't sway me'. For lyrics- see bottom of the page. Number 14, "It's Undeniable", states "It's undeniable, we're so much smaller than we think we are... The first step that I needed to take was giving God control." These words let me know MxPx definitely isn't sick of singing about their Christian stance.

But other tracks on this cd talk about other important things too. You really can't get past the fact that these guys are relatively young and you can hear that on the song "Responsibility". (It'll probably become the anthem of 16 year olds everywhere.)"Prove It To the World" talks about stating your opinion and living out your dream. "Educated Guess" is pretty good at stating that life is filled with stress and no one's telling us to have a little fun. "When you think back does it ever make you cry? Like it does me with the tears all in my eyes. Crying driving in my car. Looking back on my life so far." "Here With Me", "Without You", and "Two Whole Years" are songs about friendship and love. The first two could make girls melt. (In that punkish sorta way.)

Throughout this band talks about much of what we know as everyday living. Religion, social aspects, love, and most of all life. I love it!

*Foolish* (track 9)

Some people say that I threw my brain away

That I'm illogical and don't have much to say

Some people say that it's foolish to believe

In what we cannot see, so we're deceived

*
All that I can do is listen to you

All that you can be is out there, you'll see

*

Every single time that I

Explain to you my reasons why

You turn away you close your eyes

And then you cut me down to size

*

Some people say that I threw my vote away

The moment I decided to live this way

Some people say that it's foolish to believe

In what we cannot see, so we're deceived

I'm not here to make you all agree

But have you looked at this historically?

*

Every single time that I

Explain to you my reasons why

You turn away; you close your mind

Your heart's just not prepared to find

Some meaning, some meaning

*

Just wait, and listen to that voice

It calls so quietly, for you to make a choice

What will it be? What will it be?
