Maggie Siu -- Distinct Lines Drawn in Work and Personal Life

2nd page picture caption: She never likes to talk about her personal life.

Work is work. Play is play. The lines are drawn clearly. Maggie would never mix work and personal life together. She said, "Other professionals never talk about their private matters. I don't understand why actors are required to. If others want to, they can. As for me, I like to keep distinct lines drawn."

It's not easy trying to get Maggie to do an interview. Unless it's during a series promotion, we rarely get to see Maggie in the public eye.

Maggie's low profile is known throughout the business. She would never draw attention to herself intentionally or pretend to be someone she's not.

After work, she would automatically "disappear" until new work comes along. She's generally does not go to public functions which is why she gives people the impression that she can vanish without a trace.

"I think those functions are pointless. Work is work. Afterwards, I like to relax and rest.

Most of time, I still go out -- walk on the streets, go shopping, etc. It's just that I rarely go to places where a lot of Chinese people gather around. Also, I don't hang out with the press or people in the business much. That's why they think I've vanished. Actually, I've been hanging out in public places all along."

Acting is Hard Work. Rest is Necessary.
After work, Maggie goes straight home to rest. Occassionally, she'll go and grab a late-night snack with other co-workers. If not, she'll just go home and sleep. Actually, acting can be hard work. You don't get a lot of rest. If you don't ask for it, you don't get it. After you're well rested during the break, you might ask your friends to hang out with you or go away on a vacation together.

As to her relatively low profile status, Maggie is working to change it because nevertheless it does has an adverse effect to her furture career.

She described that actors are like twinkling shining forms of celestial bodies that attract other peoples attention. However, acting is like any other form of profession.

When the work is done, the desire to go home and wind down with the family is similar to anyone else's. The only difference is the recognition factor. To be honest, there's not that much of a difference with other professionals.

Work is work. Play is play. Maggie is very fair about the lines drawn. That is why she would never bring her personal life and her work together.

Ekin is Reserved. Very Understanding.
Maggie believes that since other professionals don't have to mix the two together, she doesn't understand why actors have to talk about their private lives.

If other actors like to do that, then they must be an old loving couple. After being together for so many years, understanding your partner is like knowing yourself. However, the sweet words are vital nonetheless, because they are what deepens the relationship so that the other party knows.

Honest Commitment. Stable Relationship.
Besides love words, Ekin also reveals alot about his feelings which makes Maggie to better understand him. She said that there is a lot of communication between them.

"I'm just a simple person with no special powers that can read another person's heart. Even if you know what that person's thinking or your hearts are together as one, that person's true thoughts and intentions -- based only on gut feelings -- are still difficult to gauge totally. That is why honesty is the best policy. It not only lets the other party know clearly, it also prevents the misinterpretations."

"If you can interpret the person's feelings, of course that is great. But if you guess wrong, then there will be a lot of misunderstandings."

After this accident, both Ekin and Maggie understand the importance of honesty and will use this as a means to build an even stronger relationship.

For Ekin, who is a singer, publicity and promotion are vital. He frequently shows up at events, shows and other promos.
