Harford County Medication Policy
Under certain circumstances, when it is necessary for a child to take medication during school hours, the following requirements must be met:
- Prescription medication must be in the original container with directions that include specific dose and time to be given to the student.
- Over-the-counter medications must be in original container with directions for usage.
- A written Permission Medication Consent Form must be signed by the doctor and parental guardian in order for the medication to be administrated to the child by Nurse Gallion. (Mrs. Gallion will be happy to give you the form.)
- Name of the medication along with dosage, time and dates to be administrated must be stated on the medication permission form.
- All medication must be brought to and picked up from school by a parent/guardian or another responsible adult.
- It is recommended that when you get a prescription filled which must be given at school as well as at home, you request the pharmacist to split the medication into 2 bottles, each labeled, and bring the appropriate one to school. (This service is usually free.)
Please notify the nurse of any home, work, or emergency number changes on your child's emergency card.
