You Lit Up My Life

Part 2

"This is your place, huh?" Static asked, sitting gingerly on the couch. "Yeah!" Megavolt answered, and watched as Static hooked some wires to the generator she still had with her, and then hooked them to the steel plates on her arms. "Is that how you recharge?" He asked, looking slightly interested. "Yeah...though I only need to do it like once a month or so..." She spoke, letting the energy flow into her. "Your lucky...my electrical reserves run out pretty fast!" He muttered, toying with a light bulbs gently.

"So..you live here alone?" She asked, taking a look out the window, and wincing at the tide. "Yeah..well, Quackerjack comes around once in a while...but he usually just watches tv..." Megavolt trailed off.

"No girlfriend then?" Static inquired, arching an eyebrow. "No...why, interested?" Megavolt asked with a sly smile. "N...no...I'm just wondering!" Static sputtered. "Well, actually I did sort of have one..." He said sadly. "But that was a long time ago..." He sighed, pulling out the photograph from the other edge of the couch. "Wow...and you actually remember her?" Static asked, quickly pouncing over to him on the couch, eager to see what the girl in the photograph looked like. "I bet she's pretty!" Static spoke, smiling at Megavolt. "She was beautiful!" He answered sadly, his eyes resting on the photo. "All I know about her though was her first name..." He trailed off, seeing the name written beneath the photo once more.

"What was her name?" Static asked, as Megavolt handed her the photograph. "Rita!" He sighed dreamily, and clasped his hands together in front of him. Static's blood ran cold, and slowly, ever so slowly, her eyes traveled to the picture. "Oh...my...god..." She gasped in a barely audible voice. Megavolt turned his eyes towards her in boredom, but cocked in his in confusion as he noticed the expression on her face. Her bright green eyes were locked on him, and her hands, clutching the photograph, had turned white and were shaking. "It was....you...you...did...." Static couldn't quite get the words out, as she dropped the photograph on the floor without even realizing it.

"Hey...be careful with that...that's the last scrap of memory I got left of her!" He muttered sadly, picking up the picture. For a moment, he found himself looking at it, then back at Static. Same green eyes He suddenly noticed. Same face....same...

"Not anymore you don't...." Static gasped, touching his hand gently. "Wh...what do you mean?" Megavolt's voice wavered, as he unconsciously turned the palm of his hand upwards so he could grasp her small hand in his. Static took a deep breath, and locked eyes with him once more. "I mean....I mean the girl in the picture is me!"

At that moment, Megavolt fell off the couch in a dead faint.
