Bind Up My Life
A Work in Progress

BLACK BUNTING

A cold November rain
Seeping into my soul
On a black night of sleeplessness
My heart is a chilly place
Drafty to the core
And I sit here
Trying to stoke this pitiful fire
Into a raging inferno
To burn the tainted
Flesh
To cauterize the wound
Self inflicted?
Yes perhaps
Long ago when I lied to me
And thought I could be
Something I am not
And now I pray
For Armageddon
Praying and saying
Give me Armageddon
For I dont want to wake up to another day
The same way as today
And as it was yesterday
Between the rock and the proverbial
I twist and turn for solutions
That will not come
Hiding there behind a rock
Or under it
And I pray for peace
And solitude
And want to smile once again
At Christmas lights
Instead of dreading the shopping
Of yet to come
And I know Ive wrapped myself
In black bunting
But you see I just cant rise above
Dont give me logics and advice right now
Just give me your love.
White Shroud

Heaven has tossed down
Another blanket on his lady love
As she sleeps
The fitful sleep of mothers
And I watch and wait
For her to stir
To throw off her shroud
Of silent winter
To rise and stretch
And begin the embrace.
And I watch and wait;
A shadow traversing her dreams
Like all the other shadows
Waiting, shivering.
There a droplet of redbird
Stains the white shroud;
His mate nearby waiting
Huddled in the cold.
Shadows like me waiting
The trees stand mute witness
To our waiting
The rocks have wept
But now their tears are frozen
Frozen in the waiting
Sleepy Hollow

I
n the chilly air there in the forest
Among the rotted brown
There three little green leaves
And a little white head down

Still drowsy in the morning wet
Still sleepy at the start of Spring
Still wondering just where shes at
At this glorious beginning of being

Yes the forest is awakening
From the long long Winters sleep
And stretching forth its fingers green
And rising to its feet

With arms stretched upward to the sun
Heads are soon to follow
And life is at the starting gun
Down here in a sleepy hollow
