Wages paid in Cash
photo

Wages in Korea get paid in cash.

Paper money here comes in 2 denominations. There is a 5,000 won note, and a 10,000 note. There are no larger notes, and I am not sure why, but these seem adequate for the purpose of spending.

I get paid in cash, and its a huge amount. It fits two envelopes, and I am not too good at counting it either. I keep getting confused, as the green notes in Australia are the $20.00 bill. I thought this bundle looks quite substantial. It is what a teacher earns a month, and if you count it very carefully, you will know my wage. It also looks like the rolls of cash money people carry around here. Its amazing how much cash people seem to have, when you see them paying accounts at the shops.

I can now do my own banking. I hand in the past month's form and the teller gets the details from there. I got into a fluster when I did not know what she was asking for, tried to ring but no-one was answering the phone, then she came back with the word 'passport', so it was identification she was seeking. I gave her the passport, and the alien card, and the money gets transmitted within a couple of hours.

Awesome is it not???  I thought you would like to see my wages going straight into the bank, so I can draw it out again.
