The staff at the railway stations wear these sashes. This guy was standing by the exit ticket machine.
The first time I saw sashes being worn, was at Nonsan, and I thought the girls were part of some beauty promotion..they looked so smart. I have seen them many times. I have no translation so I am assuming it is a badge of task...they tell people these are checkers...I have just learnt that the sashes say "Can I be of service to you?' I thought he had won something or was a highly recommended staff member, or at least a Beauty Contest entrant. He certainly looks impressive, and his uniform is immaculate, right down to his white gloves.
This man was collecting the tickets as we passed out of the train to leave the station. I got so excited at taking this photograph that I dropped one red, mountain climber's, warm glove...and though I returned to find it, it went missing. I am now starting a collection of single left hand gloves. I should start buying ones in wool that can be worn on any hand... Sigh!!!
