Military Museum at Backje
photo

This is the main entrance to the Backje Military Museum.

There is a small entry fee, and you walk in to a film strip which graphically and very artistically tells you the story of the battles. There are some glorious riding scenes with horses riding across sunsets andthe soldiers at war.

This walks into a large area with maps and details of the war and when Korea was part of Red China. The next room has life sized very realistic figures dressed in the military gear with horses in position, and is just awesome. At the far end is a huge wooden pagoda type structure which overlooks a full military enactment of the bombarding of the fort at Backje. This enaction is very beautiful with a glorious sunset and soldiers climbing the fort walls and is very realistic.

A film strip is below which tells the history and the story of the Fort anthe battle.

You go to the rear and climb up steps to a mezzanine area, where there are tools, artifacts and displays of men at work building the fort. There was an entire soldiers head dress and boots, and a korean tourist was sheepily trying to get it off his head when I came upstairs and a child was dancing around in the boots, so security was not too careful.

Downstairs a corridor led to a room of sundries and everyday items such as spinning wheels, cotten rollers, iron mini fire-irons and pots and tools for the kitchen and for the imperial dress. A huge map of the area was on the floor and one walked around and then outside to a courtyard and an outside display which it was too cold and snowing for us to walk across to.

It was a very modern, well planned and clearly displayed Musem, with some English labelling..

Well worth a visit.
