I had been talking about pets that children have in Australia and America and showed the class the various animals.

Last week Mikey said he had a pet. He showed me a small plastic container about the size of a yoghurt jar. Inside was what looked like sawdust and wood chips. On Saturday he was all excited because he had a grub. The creature is as big as my finger, and looks gruesome. We went to the Internet and did a search and thats how I discovered he has the pupae of a stag beetle. The beetle looks very handsome in the google pictures...and judging by the size of the grub, it is going to be quite a big beetle with horns...black and rather majestic looking.

Amazing....they come in plastic jars and are popular pets.
