There are no cemeteries as such, in Korea.
People get cremated, and the ashes kept in wooden jars which are very beautiful. I was trying to buy one for Carol, and Grace told me she did not need it, and thats how I discovered what these great jars were for...
Special people, are buried on hillsides.
This small patch of tombstones was behind the tennis courts at Konyang University where I play tennis with Andre on Wednesdays.
I saw them when I chased a missing ball...and took this photo from the middle of the tennis court.
Along the hillsides are quite a few tombs...and it looks such a special way to remember a loved one. I took photos of many along the road to Daejeon and also from the train.
The tombstones are of marble. Marble is mined here, but much of it comes from China. The apartment steps are solid marble...and so si the family bed.
Marble is popular here for construction too..and many buildings have facades of marble or marble features somewhere prominent.
My favourite is the tombstones so beautifully located on prime land, facing the best view across the valley. Maybe I should go and sit by a tombstone and meditate...it would be a beautiful place to be in, as these seem to take the best locations, which is interesting...especially in farm country.
