Jade Factory on the way to North Tower

We saw the entire process of the jade from the design to the first cut, to the carving, the polishing and the sales area.

We saw different types of Jade and how to recognize jade from glass and marble. True jade has a see through quality and is transparent with some blemishes from the natural stone. Glass is flawless and clear. Many of the jade on sale are just colored glass or colored marble. The real jade is quite expensive. I could not afford any as the prices were in the hundreds just for a jade bangle. Jade will scratch glass like a diamond and is almost as hard as a diamond, and as valuable. There is a range of colors from pale green to deep green and also earth tones.

I loved the carvings and this horse was just stunning. There was also a jade ship which was as high as the room. I bought a jade egg, and a cheap bracelet which I examined in the bus, and its dyed glass...so much for my lesson on how to recognise jade.

It was very interesting and I just loved the jade display area.

I gave my husband a ring of solid jade as a wedding band.
