This was clearer as you can see how the wall stretches back and imagine it stretching forward.

The wall was built in 1407. It took 1000 workers to make the first part and took them ten years. Of the 1000 workers, 500 died, and they were simply buried under the wall. Conditions would have been just awful, and they were not even paid for their labor. It was considered a privilege to work and die for your emperor.

The wall is 4600 kms long, which is almost the distance between ew York and San Francisco, or Perth and Sydney. That is a long wall and one feels deeply for the laborers who built this Wonder.

It is certainly a marvel, and the Tour today, organised by Chinatripadvisor was certainly awesome. I promised myself I would take a notebook and take notes tomorrow. There was so much information that I cannot now remember. Christina the tour guide was very knowledgeable and great fun too. I will fill  in details later.

I hope you have enjoyed my tour of the Great Wall from the North Tower.

I did
