This movie takes place in Mejii Era Japan when the country of Japan as a whole sturggled between modernization (which came hand in hand with corruption) and traditionalism. Durring the war to overthrow the Tokugawa Shogunate the most feared assassin, the Hitokiri Battousai, slew a young man by the name of Gentatsu Takatski. Gentatsu left behind a younger sister and a bitter best friend, Shigure Takimi. Shigure leads a band of children against the Meijii government in an act of atonement but a reformed Battousai (Now Kenshin) stands in his way. In a twisted, depressing tale of atonement and honor, Kenshin and Shigure must face off and Kenshin must go against his strict pacifist beliefs if he is to survive against Shigure in a very symbolic battle.
