I was reading a little bit the other day about movies that are coming out and sadly some of them are based on my favorite games. When I say that "sadly" they are based on some of my favorite games, I mean that hollywood is going to mess up the stories so incredibly bad that I will almost be embarassed to claim loyalty to the franchise (Street Fighter anyone?) The movies coming out in question are Doom, House of the Dead II (as if the first one didn't suck bad enough), and Silent Hill. What's truly depressing about this is that the games are actually pretty good. True, they may not have the deepest plots ever (with the exception of Silent Hill but how is it possible to ruin them. Apparently with Doom, the plot has been bastardized by making the demons mutated humans rather than demons and the main character was sent in specifically to wipe out the mutated humans. Why can't they just leave it alone and keep it the way it was? A marine goes to Mars for a routine mission, the scientists are screwing around and open up a portal to hell. Why do you have to change it!? LEAVE IT ALONE! Don't even get me started on The House of the Dead. The only connection the first movie had to the arcade series was the main character and you don't even find out who he is until the end of the movie. The only thing that people enjoyed about the movie were the occasional boob shots but even they aren't worth that much pain and suffering. Although I'm not too sure about that since apparently one guy I heard in a chat room said that he would have a catheter inserted if it meant that a hot nurse would play with his junk. Nevermind the excruciating pain of having a catheter inserted into your body, he would risk it for a whopping fifteen seconds of fun (since I'm sure thats how long someone like him would actually last). What a dillhole. The one that truly upsets me though is Silent Hill. From what I have read about the script so far, the main character is not Harry Mason, but his wife (who had already died about seven years before the first game ever started). Apparently their adopted daughter, Cheryl, is sick and keeps crying out in her sleep about the town of Silent Hill. The wife (being the loving person she is) wants to take the daughter to Silent Hill to see a faith healer rather than take her to a doctor who isn't a scam artist (since there really aren't any other kinds of faith healers). But nooooooo, the husband doesn't want her to see a faith healer. The wife, apparently exercising her feminist right to rebel against the dictatorship of her husband who doesn't have his head shoved up his butt and is using logical reasoning, leaves and goes to Silent Hill anyways, thus scoring points for women all over the world in the name of defying the proper role of a woman to be submissive to her husband who has her best interest in mind and is the true head of the house-hold (thus making Gloria Steinam give a standing ovation in sheer orgasmic ecstasy of this display of rebellion). Harry, being the cruel taskmaster that he is by wanting the best for his daugher by making sure she goes to a real doctor, doesn't want his wife in Silent Hill and so he hires a cop (the actual cop from Silent Hill, Cybil) to stop his wife. Do I need to go on any further or can those of you who know the story of the first game guess how the movie will be bastardized from here on out? Why can't you people just leave the stories alone and quit trying to indoctrinate the American people with your own agenda? You don't always have to have an agenda when you make a movie. Why can't you just tell a story and leave the axe-grinding out of it? You people make me sick. I swear to God though, if you ever make a movie based on Legacy of Kain you better not screw it up or change it. If you do, may the Soul Reaver feast on your souls and may you despair for all of eternity (moreso than you already deserve for Super Mario Brothers).
