Brings back great memories of growing up in Levittown. I grew up in Magnolia Hill, Lakeside and Stonybrook. One of my favorite memories is of playing over at the Lakeside Lake. We used to wander around the lake, watching everyone who was fishing there. Mostly they caught catfish, but occasionally some trout. How many from Lakeside remember "the dump"? It was a second lake, next to the main one that St. Michael's filled in. Because it was used as a landfill, and not fenced (until much later), the kids in Lakeside loved to wander around the dump and look for things to take, play with or break (it was garbage anyway). The first day of fishing season was cool. Everyone would pitch a tent and sleep over at the lake so they could start fishing at dawn of pening day.

I went to Albert Schweitzer and Herbert Hoover elementary, Carl Sandburg JHS and graduated from Neshaminy HS in '73. I thought Levittown was the pits at the time...just something we all wanted to get away from. Now, I'm raising my child in a tiny 1200 s.f house near Seattle that cost 15 times the price of our home in 1960 and there's none of the kids on the streets to play with or endless neighborhoods to wander. Ah nostalgia...still it was wonderfully rural when we moved in. Does anyone remember Greenwoo Dairy and their awesome sundaes and the circus that came to the large field near rt 413 and rt 1 every summer? Does anyone know if Pineway Farms or Snipes Farms still exists? Does anyone who went to Neshaminy remember a student named Arlene Berlin (my si ter). I'd love to correspond and sometimes I'd love to jump into a time capsule and head back to my road... [email protected]

I grew up in Quincy Hollow (lee's little sister jack and lorraine's 2nd daughter) the best of times were in Levittown the soap box derby, egan dances, joes pizza (good stuff!!!), and chicken delight! the o'boyles ice cream trucks and hanging out under the lamp posts. Apples and Pears from the trees out back and the closeness of all the nieghbors. Here in arizona your lucky if you ever meet your neighbor in the developments they build. sure do miss home!!!!! great site takes me back !!!!! does anyone remember the gas riots!!!!at five points ?????

Great site. It brings back a lot of memories of being brought up in any North American suburb in the 1950s and 1960s. Your sights and sounds remind me of my young days in Ottewell, a south side suburb of Edmonton Alberta where we moved to in 1962. Even th houses remind me of your pics of Levittown; I last visited in 1997 and a lot had changed but not really much! The frightening thing is that we oof the boomer generation still gravitate to communities that are similar; I am now living in Fallingbrook in O leans Ontario abot 12 miles east of Ottawa. If you relly want to step back in time and see similar houses visit any Canadian Forces Base...Gees those married quarters are small and quote quaint unquote. Again great site. Mitch

Interesting and sad! Lived there from 1953 until 1963. Went to St. Michael's and Bishop Egan. After Vietnam was there for a short time - went off to St. Joe's College and now a hundred years later with 3 children and 2 grand chidren ...... We lived at Twig Lane ... certainly was a time of innocence.
