| Here are some pictures of our twins, Cameron and Jesse who were born prematurely at 31 weeks gestation. They were taken early due to fetal distress. The pregancy had been a complicated one because the boys were what is known as "monoamniotic" meaning they shared the same amniotic space. This is a highly dangerous situation, as the babies cords usually become entangled, putting the babies in danger. The survival rate for this type of pregnancy is only about 50 to 75 percent. (Before todays advanced monitoring techniques the loss rate was much higher) I was admited to the hospital at 25 weeks gestation and remained there until the boys were delivered at 31 weeks. Their heart rates had plummeted to only about 40 beats per minute (normal for this stage is about 160) When they were born we found out why....Their umbilical cords were in four HUGE square knots!!! They spent 6 weeks in the hospital and thankfully suffered none of the complications that some preemies have to endure. Jesse was on a respirator for one day, and Cameron spent one day on C.P.A.P.
