Modern Magic

Imagine the world you are in without any form of electricity whatsoever. At first, one might think that the human race would be pushed back hundreds, even a thousand years.

But a new form of energy was created, or rather discovered by not humans, but a close ally of theirs - the elves. They called this form of energy magic, for in the tongue of their ancestors, 'magic' meant 'soul'.

Magic was indeed linked to the soul, tied to every living creature whether they knew it or not. It was the power that drove life, the power that kept both order and chaos in balance. It was both creation and destruction - in essence, magic was existance...and void.

Magic gave the intelligent living creatures a way to progress without electrical means, and the world went on a similar and yet different path that ours did.

Atlantis was once a city that rivaled Rome in technology - but the inhabitants soon fell prey to their own knowledge. They awoke a water-demon which sunk Atlantis before returning to its sleep, and now the city is populated only by merfolk.

The elves all but ruled the world for a time, so many were their colonies. Ruling from a large island they called 'England', it was said that the sun never set - for they owned land around the world. And yet the other races chafed under their rule, and fought back until England's colonies became nations of their own.

A man named Hitler nearly destroyed the world with magic, using bloodlore to gain more and more power until he nearly became a god. Only the combined efforts of every race were able to stop the madman. before he wiped out all but his chosen followers.
