Mt. Kenya
The morning was cold and dark as I stumbled over the rocks to the outhouse with the feeble light from my headlamp. Shortly after, we had a quick cup of tea and then turned toward Lenana summit. Slowly we climbed the gentle ridge to the near-vertical pitch with its patches of ice.

The sky brightened as I finally hauled myself onto the summit (4985 metres). Within minutes the sun popped over the horizon giving the world a red hue and long shadows.

As always, every effort to make the summit was forgotten as I turned in each direction to see a good portion of Kenya beneath me. It's always worth it.
