Diving Tofo, Mozambique
Tofo's waters are big and, often, rough. The swells of the Straight of Mozambique can hide breaching humpbacks. Visibility varies from season to season but was running anywhere from 3-12 metres while I was there. Every day there were humpbacks playing offshore (one morning we were watching the sun rise and the humpbacks started breaching and hanging silhoetted against the golden hues) and, with the exception of
one dive, their songs played in the water, easily heard between each breath. Hearing them means they were within about 2 kms.
