The Meek

Mustn't bother the humans...
Mustn't clitter.
Mustn't clatter.
But wait--wait in cupboards,
Clever among the cleavers.
We frighten you because we're chaos,
Only held back by your most elaborate poisons.
Only held back
Until night falls
And you're not watching
And not expecting
One thin and tremulous limb
To caress you in your human dreams.
To bless you with anarchy's iron kiss.
You hate us,
Because you know
Long after you're gone
We'll be here,
Scittering across your world.
Cockroach triumphant
Inexorable and eternal.....
We can wait.
