LIKE A VIRGIN - 1984

Like A Virgin was released in November 1984, it was Madonna's 2nd album and her 1st (of 4) to go to # 1! This album has 4 top 5 hits, one of which went to # 1. It also contains 2 ballads that are less then appealing to listen to according to many people. The only thing that bothers me about this album were the lack of videos. Having the video for Dress you up being a live video and not having a video for Angel is something that still majorly upsets me. Note that Crazy for you & Gambler(Vision Quest soundtrack) videos were released in between releases of Material Girl & Angel and that she was in movies Vision Quest and Desperately seeking Susan during these single releases of this album and the very popular Into the groove was NEVER a single in the U.S., but just a B-side....STUPID!!!! This album is dedicated to all the virgins in the world.

WORST VIDEO:
MATERIAL GIRL

LIKE A VIRGIN

Material Girl - 2nd single which was her first to peak at # 2 (Thanks to We are the world). Don't worry guys.. Crazy for you knocked out We are the world from the top spot a few weeks later. I hate to admit it, but I love this song. The video portrayed the complete opposite of the songs meaning, which confused the hell out of me when I was young. Madonna claims to now hate this song, we all love it. Madonna is still refered to as the Material girl, and the video was one of her best of the 80s. Single cover could have been better.

Angel - 3rd single off this album and it peaked at # 5. One of my all time favorite Madonna songs which is also one of her most forgotten in my opinion. I will never forget roller skating to this song they played every week at the local roller rink. I think it is forgotten because there was no video and it was never resurfaced on a collection or it wasn't sung live on video. This single contained Into the groove on the B-side. This is where Madonna began to show signs of f*cking up, when it comes to releasing material.

Like A Virgin - 1st single off this album and went to # 1 for 6 weeks. If you don't know this song, shut down your computer and shut down your life right now. You are pathetic. This is where it all started! The video was a let down. I find it difficult to watch without fast forwarding the whole thing. I don't get the whole lion thing. She could have done more with a song like that. She has performed this song at all 4 of her tours. All in a different way of performing, from masterbation on a bed, to rolling around on the ground in a wedding gown. One of the greatest 80s hits ever!

Over and Over - An A-side in Italy, a B-side in Japan for Love don't live here anymore. Another great dance track but it needs that extra "umff" in it and it would have single potential. The best remixed song on the You can dance album would definately be this track. " I get up again! over and over!"

Love don't live here anymore - This is the black sheep of the album. In 1985 this song was only released in Japan where it hit # 2, (her most suprising chart peak to me). Madonna would re-release this song in 1995 in the U.S. and she would then make a video for it. The video portrays a re-visit to the room that she was dancing around in in the Like a virgin video. In this room she walks around a poll for the entire song, by herself, singing the entire song. Many say this is her worst video, but I would go with True Blue as being the worst because this one had one thought to it, the room, where True Blue had no thought and she looked worse.

Dress You Up - Final single which peaked at # 5. "Gonna dress you up in my love in my love!!!" She opened up her first tour with this song. The video was just a live video. Love this song. Eventhough I learned a short while ago that "dress you up in my love" means that she wants to cum all over her lover. "my love" means her secretions and she wants to dress him up with it all over his body. A pretty interesting vision of this should come to mind.

Shoo Be Doo - B-side to Dress you up a very boring amateur sounding song that nobody really likes. It is the longest song on the album and also the worst. This ballad doesn't deserve any more typing from me.

Pretender - B-side to Material Girl and Papa don't preach. This song is dull and repeatitive. One little bell is the only instrument and she repeats herself over and over. Talking about "he's a pretender", sounds so childish against Alanis Morisette.

Stay - B-side to Like A Virgin. Stay was one of her oldest written songs I believe. I think she had this song even before her first album. I'm surprised she never performed this, but then again, theres alot that suprises me about Madonna. I love the ending where we hear "love me love me love me love me love me... lovelovelove love me love me..."
