THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION - 1990

THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION - after her Blond Ambition Tour, The Dick Tracy Movie, The I'm Breathless Album, we got this collection of hits from 1983-1990 plus 2 new tracks (Justify My Love & Rescue Me). This album is owned by pretty much everybody. It contains Crazy For You and Into The Groove which before this album, were a bitch to own. I'm pretty much satisfied with the choices of songs that were placed on this CD. Perhaps I would have left off Live To Tell and Cherish and put on Who's That Girl? and Causing A Commotion or Angel and Dress You Up, but I'm not gonna complain. This album was released in December of 1990 and it was her 2nd of 5 to peak at #2 on the charts thanks to Vanilla Ice hogging the #1 spot. Some of the tracks have minor differences then the originals such as a few seconds left off, some are remixed, all in all you know and love all the songs on this album. There also was a video released titled 'the Immaculate Collection' which contained the videos of most of these songs. They didn't put Crazy For You, Into The Groove, & Live To Tell on there because of the copyrighted movie footage contained in those videos. Oh Father video is included and Vogue live from MTV awards is also, however, Justify My Love is not. The cover of this album was planned to be a picture of her with black hair but she said she looked like Mike Tyson and refused to allow that to be the cover. theres a nice summary written about her careerinside the booklet of this album. This album contains 15 top 10 hits (8 of which went to #1). The track sequence is in chronological order from when these songs were released to the public individually. I believe that the title of this album referrs to "The Immaculate Conception" which is probably why this album is dedicated to the pope.

CRAZY FOR YOU

Holiday - Taken from the 'Madonna' album. This song was re-released in 1991 outside the U.S. and re-gained airplay in the U.S. in 1991. This remixed version was also perfomed at her tour and we finally got a kinda video for this song which was taken from her film Truth or Dare, which was taken from the Blond Ambition Tour. This song hit #16 back in 1983.

Lucky Star
- Taken from the 'Madonna' album. Her 1st top 5 hit. It hit # 4. The song rocks! A great singing/dancing song. This video was nothing specatcular, Madonna dancing with 2 backup dancers with a white background and they're all dressed in black. This song was sort of released before Borderline to clubs, etc being on a promo with Holiday but it was officialy released after Borderline.

Borderline
- Taken from the 'Madonna' album. Her first top 10 hit, hitting # 10 (LOL). The beginning of this song sounds very slow and boring, sort of like a lullaby and then changes beat. I guess she likes that idea, she does it in many songs, including Ray of light. One of her first videos with a decent storyline and she claimed once that this was her first video... LIAR! I guessed she forgot about the other 2, or was embarassed of them. The song is supposedly about an orgasm.

Like A Virgin
- Taken from the 'Like A Virgin' album. It had gone to # 1 for 6 weeks. If you don't know this song, shut down your computer and shut down your life right now. You are pathetic. This is where it all started! The video was a let down. I find it difficult to watch without fast forwarding the whole thing. I don't get the whole lion thing. She could have done more with a song like that. She has performed this song at all 4 of her tours. All in a different way of performing, from masterbation on a bed, to rolling around on the ground in a wedding gown. One of the greatest 80s hits ever!

Material Girl - Taken from the 'Like A Virgin' album. It was her first to peak at # 2 (Thanks to We are the world). which Crazy for you knocked out of the top spot a few weeks later. I hate to admit it, but I love this song. The video portrayed the complete opposite of the songs meaning, which confused the hell out of me when I was young. Madonna claims to now hate this song, we all love it. Madonna is still refered to as the Material girl, and the video was one of her best of the 80s. Single cover could have been better.

Crazy For You - Taken from the 'Vision Quest' soundtrack. This was her 2nd # 1 hit, probably the only romantic song she has ever done. It was re-released outside the U.S. in 1991. the single cover for 1991 (see above) is the same picture from the Rescue Me single which is weird because her voice/look/image on that cover doesn't match that of the song.

Into The Groove - B-side to Angel, and a single outside the U.S.. Gee thanks Madonna! It was from the movie Desperately Seeking Susan which starred Madonna. One of her best dance songs ever. I believe it is the most played non-single ever. 99.9% of this video is clips from the movie, the other .1% is a picture of her face in the stars. This song was released outside the U.S. in 1985, a shame that this was never a single in the U.S.

Live To Tell - Taken from the 'True Blue' album. A ballad from the movie At Close Range also. It went to # 1 for a week. Video is majorly boring where she sits on a chair and sings, looking like a kindergarten teacher. Clips from the movie are shown periodically through out the video. This song seems to never end. A live version can be found on the You'll See Maxi. This supposedly is Madonna's all time favorite song she said once. But she changes her mind a lot, so who knows.

Papa Don't Preach - Taken from the 'True Blue' album. It went to # 1 for 2 weeks. The song is about a girl confronting her father of her pregnancy with her boyfriend. The video won an MTV award for Best Female Video. This is one of her first videos which contained meaning, starring Madonna as a teenage girl living in New York with her single dad (played by Danny Aiello) and she meets a guy and they fall in love and she tells her dad that she pregnant and in the end they are hugging. Her nipple can be seen when she reaches back right before we hear "he says that he's going to marry me". Her hair is HORRIBLE in this video.. what happened?!? Did they forget to bring a comb at some points?

Open Your Heart - Taken from the 'True Blue' album. It went to # 1 for a week. In this video, Madonna's hair is even shorter and whiter. YUCK! She plays a stripper/dancer girl and basically dances on stage while everyone watches and then she runs off in the sunset with the kid who has been trying to peak inside the club the whole night. A kick ass song and an awesome remix of it is on the maxi single. This song was the opening song for the Who's that Girl? Tour.

La Isla Bonita - Taken from the 'True Blue' album. "Last Night I Dreamed of Some Bagel..." The song is beautiful. Its still on the radio, and i believe it is the most Madonna played song on radio all over the world. Peaking at # 4 on the charts and having a very low budget looking video. Wouldn't you think there would at least be an ocean, palm trees, beach, or at least sand in this video??? NO. All we get is a shot of the sun over a mountain. I never got into the whole meaning behind this video, I just discovered that her hair was fake when she was wearing the red dress. This was the only song from 'True Blue' to be performed at The Girlie Show Tour 1993.

Like A Prayer - Taken from the 'Like A Prayer' album (sorta). It was an all around the world smash! Hitting # 1 in every country and staying at # 1 in the U.S. for 3 weeks. The version on this album is way heavy on the organ. I'm not feeling it. The original is much better with Madonna vocals sounding adult and professional. A choir is in the background to spice up the song. The video sparked loads of controversy for containing such materials as burning crosses and Madonna kissing a black saint in a church. Pepsi went back on their 5 million dollar contract (already signed) with her of doing a commercial, after they had viewed the video. The only thing surprising/shocking to me about this video was the fact that we finally saw her as a brunette!

Express Yourself - Taken from the 'Like A Prayer' album. 3rd single of her career to peak at #2, thanks to "Toy Soldiers" by Martika), it is considered to be one of her greatest songs and videos by many. The version on this album is MUCH better then the original. It did not hit #1 in any country. This was the opening song for her Blond Ambition World Tour in 1990.

Cherish - Taken from the 'Like A Prayer' album. 4th single of her to career to peak at #2, thank Janet Jackson's 'Miss You Much' for this one. I think this song was really recorded in 1986 because it sounds more 'True Blue' Albumish. It's sort of lubby dubby I love you baby mooshy wooshy song. The video contained Madonna on a beach accompanied by mermen and a kid, to this day I still have no clue if it is male or female. Anyway, the single contained a non-album track titled Supernatural, which is an outstanding song which perfectly fits the mood of the Like a Prayer album b/c of it's spooky, haunting, and mystifying sound. A shame that this track was dropped from the album.

Vogue - Taken from the 'I'm Breathless' album. It had zoomed to the # 1 spot on the charts and sat there for 3 weeks when it was released. It was supposedly supposed to be a B-side to Keep it together! I still thank God that she didn't do that. This is her most selling # 1 single of all time. It was a breakthrough and was a huge revolution. This video is always getting one of the best videos of all time whether it be on some MTV or VH1 show. One of the best and most popular Madonna songs ever! Thank God she put it on this album because not many people own I'm Breathless. It was originally supposed to be the final track to this collection but then all of a sudden 2 more came...

Justify My Love - 1st new song and single off of this album and it hit # 1 for 2 weeks (Her 9th #1 single in the U.S.). The song is very hot and sexual. Her voice sounds so sexual. The video for this track was banned from television so it went up on the market for about 10 bucks. I think the video sold almost 800,000 copies. This song was written by Lenny Kravitz who also throws in a few sounds/humming of his own in this song.

Rescue Me - 2nd new single off this album which only peaked at #9. This song debuted at #15 setting a record for highest female debut single at the time. She never made a video for this song or performed it, I have no idea why.
