I'M BREATHLESS - 1990

I'm Breathless was released in May 1990, it was the 1st of 5 of her albums to only hit # 2 on the charts. It was at #2 for 3 different weeks thanks always to MC Hammer that one hit wonder piece of crap. This entire album is inspired by/from the 1990 film Dick Tracy (1920s based), hence, the music is 20s sounding (except Vogue). Madonna's character in the movie was named Breathless Mahoney, which is probably where the album's title came from. Or she could say that she was breathless from singing. Who knows/cares. There were only 2 songs released from this album, (both top 10, one of which went to # 1). Only 4 of these songs were heard in the movie (Sooner or later, More, What can you lose, Now I'm following you pt 1).

WORST VIDEO:
SOMETHING TO REMEMBER
HE'S A MAN
HANKY PANKY

He's A Man - A song that seems forever to start and once it starts you wanna change tracks right away. It sounds like it would be in a first grade play or something. I'm not really feeling her chirpy voice in this track. Grade: D

Sooner or Later - Oscar Winner for Best Original Song. Woo Hoo! It's not really something you can jam too but it's magnificent. This one is difficult to sing if you ever wanna try it. She performed this at the 1991 Oscars and handled it well. It was kinda more up-beat and more up-tempo.

Hanky Panky - 2nd and final single landing at # 10 on the charts. This song is rarely heard on the radio today and also back then! It's about a girl that wants to get spanked. There was no video for this song except for a live performance from Canada. Which is nothing but her standing there singing in the microphone. Very cheesy.

I'm going bananas - What the hell is this? Until I saw this track being performed live, I did not believe that it was Madonna singing it. This has to be the most far out there song I have heard by her. It sounds like no other. I'm lying, when I was in Mexico I was in the middle of the dance floor dancing to some Mexican song that was being played and it sorta sounded like this one. The song is only like 2 minutes. Phew!

Cry Baby - What the hell is this? Who wrote this? Who hit the same 3 notes on the baby piano for 4 minutes? I hope she was kidding about this very cheesy/horrible song. Why do we hear a bad acting guy crying? VERY CHEESY! Grade: F

Something To Remember - Took me very long to appreciate/bare this track. I had to listen to it for about one year before I got used to it. I've grown to like it. Good writing and puts me in a depressing mood. It would later resurface on her 1995 ballads collection album with the same name as this track (Something To Remember.

Back in Business - Starts off slow and then goes into a sorta kick ass/fast beat. Reminds me of the way Ray of Light's beat is. Starts off slow and then explodes. One of the best songs on the album. Reminds me of Hanky Panky in a way also. I wanna dance to this at a swing club.

More - B-side to Hanky Panky. This was played throughtout the movie and during the credits. Its a great song but nothing to jam to. The last 4 seconds of the song are cool where they all scream "MORE!!, MORE!!!!"

What can you lose - What can I lose? How bout my appreciation of Madonna for including this on this album, my mind for listening to this horrible mix of voices. I don't like hearing that guy from seasame street voice mixed with her's to this very boring piano playing. Grade: F-

Now i'm following you pt 1 - Nice 20s sounding beat that was performed at the Blond Ambition Tour. This duet sounds much better then the previous track.

Now i'm following you pt 2 - A mess. They took every sound effect from this album and threw it all together. Its a more upbeat tempo from part 1 and it mixes her saying "Dick" at the end which sounds funny. I guess she was beginning to portray signs that there was going to be a sexual revolution by her approaching (Erotica album, SEX book, etc.)

Vogue - 1st single off this album and it ran quicker then a ray of light to the # 1 spot on the charts and sat there for 3 weeks. It was supposedly supposed to be a B-side to Keep it together! I still thank God that she didn't do that. Keep it together charted fine on it's own. This is her most selling # 1 single of all time. It was a breakthrough and was a huge revolution. This video is always getting one of the best videos of all time whether it be on some MTV or VH1 show. One of the best and most popular Madonna songs ever! (It doesn't really mesh well with all these tracks but what can you lose?)
