    The Los Angeles Raiders dominated and destroyed the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XVIII.  The Raiders took a 7-0 lead 4:52 into the game when reserve running back Derrick Jensen blocked Jeff Hayes's punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown.

    With 9:14 remaining in the first half, Raiders quarterback Jim Plunkett fired a perfect 12-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Cliff Branch to complete a three-play, 65-yard drive.

    Washington cut the Raiders lead to 14-3 on a 24 yard field goal but with seven seconds in the first half, Raider linebacker Jack Squirek intercepted Joe Theismann's pass and returned it for a touchdown.  This gave Los Angeles a 21-3 halftime lead.

    In the third period, running back Marcus Allen took over with precise runs that ran the clock down.  In all, Allen would rush for 191 yards (then a Super Bowl record) on just 20 carries and he scored two crucial touchdowns in the third quarter that kept Washington from getting back into the game.  Allen's 74-yard touchdown run is still the longest run in Super Bowl History.  In the fourth quarter Allen's ballcarring set up a field goal.

    The victory gave Raiders coach Tom Flores a 8-1 playoff record as a head coach and it provided the Raiders with their third NFL championship in 8 seasons.  Finally, this game would mark the AFC's last Super Bowl title until the Denver Broncos beat the Green Bay Packers in XXXII.
