LaMonica was acquired via trade with Buffalo in 1967 for QB Tom Flores.  "The Mad Bomber" had no qualms about throwing the ball downfield making him the perfect field commander for the Raiders.  His first year in the Silver and Black saw both LaMonica and the Raiders prosper.  Daryle threw for 3,228 yards and 30 touchdowns.  He would lead Oakland to their only AFL Championship and a trip to Super Bowl II.  For the next few seasons, LaMonica was one of the best quarterbacks in football.  His longball was unparallel to anybody who ever played in Oakland.  From 1967-1969 LaMonica led Oakland to a 37-4-1 record and led the Raiders to the AFL Championship game ever single year during that span.  He also led the AFC in touchdown passes each year during that time.  In all he led Oakland to four straight AFL/AFC Championship game appearances.  But the game of football was changing and the longball was no longer the key play and LaMonica beset by injuries found himself a little obsolete.  He retired in 1974 after backing up Ken Stabler for two seasons.  "The Mad Bomber" will always be remembered for his gun slinging style and his ability to throw the deep pass that Al Davis craves.
