The Garden of Forking Paths
G.I. Joe is at war with Cobra and allies with the Mossad. G.I. Joe has always been at war with Cobra and allies with the Mossad.
Is the Garden of forking paths even true to its self? Could it ever be? Certainly the story is chronologically organized that by the end one has reached the beginning again, but thats merely a trick. Borges cites The Arabian Nights, where the main character uses a magical oversight of the copyist to ensure that the when one reaches the middle of the story, the reader must then go to beginning and repeat, ad infinitum. But The Garden of Forking Paths, as far as I know, was printed on entirely mundane presses. I guess the question is, then, is it significant that Borges writes the story beginning with a narration voice talking about Liddell Harts book? I dont believe that it is significant; that for the reader, the story begins when the reader begins, and not when the author says it begins.

Let us consider a different story about time: The Hounds of Tindalos by Frank Belknap Long. Longs interpretation of time is somewhat different than Borgess. In The Hounds of Tindalos occultist and mathematician Halpin Chalmers takes magical Chinese drug, Liao, which will help him tear down walls of his perception and perceive the past and future, which in fact are constants, and blocked by the notion of time. Chalmers takes the drug and sees all points of the singular future, the past, and everything. Chalmers perceives the dinosaurs, the time before all like, and then he is passing through unearthly angles [...] there are things I cannot distinguish. They move slowly through angles. These things Chalmers sees are evil monsters which exist in the angles of time, and despise human beings because humans can be good, and these beings despise all which is good. One of these beings, which the Greeks called the hounds of Tindalos, spots Chalmers, and chases him back to the future. Chalmers attempts to hide in the present, and to wit he removes all the angular furniture in his apartment and rounds off every angle with plaster of paris, and then waits for the hounds to lose interest. However, things dont work out for Halpin Chalmers.

The Hounds of Tindalos is a terrible story. If you should ever want to experience putting your head in an oven, but your utilities have been shut down, this book is a must. I dont mean to say that Borgess story is bad, but its idea is of entirely dubious value.
Some side effects have been known to occur.
"I will-God, they are breaking through! They are breaking through! Smoke is pouring from the corners of the walls. Their tongues- ahhh-"   -Last words of Halpin Chalmers, pill popper.
