| Here it is quite clear that our author was not assassinated by the Thinkpol after all, as he writes again four days later. It turns out our author was quite mistaken in his original impression of "the Girl from the fiction department." I would hypothesize that perhaps our author is suffering from a mild nervous hysteria brought on by the long-term stress of living in Oceanic society. The only evidence to the counter is his clarity, and the apparent piece of mind with which he carries out this journal. Regardless, this girl who our author is obsesses with has furtively informed him that she is in love with him, as he is very excited to write. In an addendum in that entry, the author editorializes on a meeting at his local Community Center. He expresses a deep understanding of Oceanic society, in describing the way the majority of the population could suppress their feelings, but yet the author is highly disconnected from that way of life. This correlates closely with the possibility of a nervous disorder, but it does not explain whether this social distance would be the cause or the effect of such a nervous disorder. |
