Return to Airstrip One Revisited
In this page our journalist identifies himself as an employee of the Records Department, by his reference to having performed a "re-write" on a certain article. (And before the Sex-League begins writing letters, the author identifies himself as a man in other entries) We are also introduced to his life of paranoia, which is constant throughout the journal. All indications from the period suggest that his feelings were well founded, giving the nature of the Thinkpol. In fact even after consulting other experts in the field, (Dr. Eli Cash at NYU and Dr. Henry Sherman at the New American Museum of Natural History) our research team was unable to determine solidly how this journal was maintained for as long as it was before being confiscated by the Thinkpol. The author indicates that he rented an apartment in the public district of London which was in his opinion not monitored, but that is several months after the beginning of the journal.
The author also references other aspects of the party life: the "physical jerks" and the "two-minutes" hate, mandatory for all party members every day. Also in this entry we are introduced to a character in the author's life, "a girl in the fiction department," who is later identified as Julia, a prominent fornicator and thought criminal as we will find.
