E-mail Survivor

outwit, outplay, outsurvive

Okay, maybe I’m lame, but I created E-mail Survivor.  Not that I was a big fan of the CBS television show, but I did watch it, and I thought I could do a better job.  So, I gave it a shot!  E-mail Survivor; an interactive game in which 10 contestants try to remain on a mailing list for as long as they can.  Players participate in answering short questions, playing various (fun!) games, and trying to win immunity.  Each week, the contestants vote someone off the mailing list, until the final two.

How to play:

Game will begin on October 23, 2000 with 10 contestants, and end on December 22, 2000.

Contestants must survive on a mailing list with all the other contestants and periodically answer short questions that all other contestants will be able to see your answers.  Based upon this, involvement in the game, effort shown, and personal preferences, each contestant will vote off another contestant each week until the final two.

Leave of absence:  I realize that the world doesn’t stop for this game, and there may be some days where access to your e-mail will be near impossible, such as Thanksgiving, Outdoor School, or other things.  If contestants requesting leave e-mails the host in advance, temporary immunity may be granted, under the right conditions.  If no notice of absence is given, it will be counted as lack of participation against them.

Immunity:  In the middle of each week, an immunity challenge will be given, ranging from Internet scavenger hunts to e-mail check races, and mail forwarding assignments.  Each week the winner will be rewarded with immunity, meaning that no contestant can vote for that person for that week only.

Voting:  Everyone must vote.  If you don’t vote, it will be noted as a “lack of participation” point held against you, and you could be voted off during the next vote.  No, you cannot vote for yourself.  You can only vote from Friday afternoon until Sunday 11:59pm.  You cannot vote until you receive an e-mail from me on Friday, revealing the winner of the immunity challenge.  Voting for the immune person will count against you, so don’t do it!

Examples:

Immunity:

-         Scavenger hunt: On the WWW, using whichever search engines you wish, find a website dedicated to and/or containing these 3 items: paper clips, George Frederick Handel, and abortion.  All URLs must be typed into the return email and must be valid links from any computer from a site that does not require a password.  The first person to send me 3 correct links wins immunity.

-         Scavenger hunt: Find me a picture of a dog with a hat on it.  It can be any kind of dog and any kind of hat, either real or cartoon.  Upload the picture to me, or if that fails, send me a valid URL link directly to the picture.  I’ve gotta receive it by Thursday 11:59pm.  The picture that makes me laugh the hardest goes on my webpage, and the contestant wins immunity.

-         E-mail check race: Tomorrow, sometime between 4 and 6, I will send an e-mail to you.  The first person to follow the instructions in the e-mail and send it to me wins immunity.

Short questions:

Short questions are used to help all other contestants decide who is worthy of staying on the mailing list and who should be booted off.  All short questions will arrive on every-other Monday, and are due back before Wednesday 11:59pm.  The short questions are not only short, but also require short answers.  One sentence will usually do, unless otherwise specified.  On Thursday, I will send out everyone’s answers to the questions to everyone else to help them decide their vote the next day.  NOTE: If you repeatedly do not answer the questions on time, it will make people want to vote you off.

-         What is the average number of hours you spend online a week?

-         Besides in this game, how many e-mails do you send a week?

-         Have you ever been to a pornographic website?

-         How many e-mail address do you have total?

-         Who would you vote for President of the United States?

-         Who’s better?  Backstreet Boys or ‘N Sync?

-         Have you been to another country?  If so, which one(s)?

-         Have you ever been drunk?

-         Who’s yo mama?

Other games:

On the weeks that there are no short questions, there will be some other game or mission to complete.

-         Fill out this survey and send it to everyone currently on the mailing list, including me.

-         Go to www.thespark.com and take the famous purity test.  Be honest, there are no winners or losers to this game.  It just allows everyone to see how pure you are.

-         If you could choose a creative or humorous e-mail address, what would it be?

-         Make up a bumper sticker.  Don’t be cheap and steal an existing one.  Be creative.

The WINNER:

Do you have what it takes?  Here’s how the winner worked her way to the winning circle.

Samantha, an 18-year-old college freshman studying chemistry, or something like that, at Southern Oregon University.  Her father’s a cop, so be extra nice to her!

SAMANTHA S’s final statement: I think I should win, because of my involvement in the game throughout the entirety of it. I only missed one challenge as far as I remember, and it was just cause of finals week, you know, studying and stuff. Also, I have been honest with everything that was asked, and voted fairly. Starting with the person who was not involved, down to the last person who was not involved. I believe that I played fairly and deserve to win because I was a fair competitor and quick with my responses. Thank you and have a good day or night!! :)

Legal thing-a-m’geeber:  I don’t own the Survivor logo, concept, etc.  CBS does.  And no, I didn’t get their permission to use the name or idea.  Like they need more money?  They’ll just give another show to Tom Arnold!
