I woke up and I find myself lying on the ground outside by the stables. The loud whirring of 8 military helicopters buzzing overhead wake me from my sleep. I was a little confused as to why I was sleeping outside on the ground. I watch the helicopters as they go out of view. I look around and try to get my bearings in. I get up and I start walking towards the house. The house is huge. 14 rooms and what seemed like a million doors. The house made weird noises at night. My step-dad is a sheriff and was hardly at home which left me and my mom home alone at night a lot in this huge house. The house came with 6 acres of land and another 80 acres that we took care of. This was like a small country to me. I knew the woods like the back of my hand. I had even made a map of all the different trails and gave each trail their own name. This was Jacktown, USA. My step-brother and I used to find people out there all the time. They were either lost or like this one time, I found someone who had just robbed a store and was hiding out in the woods. I was a kid but I wasn't stupid. I asked him if he wanted some coffee and something to eat. He said yeah. I brought back my step-dad instead. That'll teach him to hide out in my woods. Sometimes we found puppies left on ledges left to defend themselves. Right now I hate the woods. I've come across too many weirdos and now there was something going on with the military in my woods. As I was saying, I walked towards the house. I walked passed my mothers car and started up the walkway to the front of the house. All of a sudden, my step-dad came bursting out of the door and looked like he was going to kill something. "Get in the truck now!" he yelled. "where's mom?" I asked. He wouldn't answer. I asked him again. "she went to the store." he said. I pointed to my mother's car. He looked at me and his head crooked to the side, just like Michael Myers from Halloween would do when he was assessing his victims in the movies. "I said she went next door, not to the store!" he yelled. He always yelled. I guess it was just the italian in him that made him yell all the time. Then I realised, I didn't say anything except point to the car. What was going on? What was he hiding? He kind of looked funny also. Everything about him was a little different. Things were a little too perfect in his appearence now. He yelled at me again to get in the truck. I did as he asked. I'm only 12 years old and it's kind of hard to argue with someone who's 6'3", 280 lbs. He got in the truck and started it up. We start heading down the driveway. There really was something wrong. He looked as if he had never driven his truck before. As we were pulling out of the driveway, I looked back up at the house. We have 3 dogs, a cat and 8 horses. I just then noticed that there wasn't any sign of them. The helicopters would have at least gotten the dogs riled up. I think I'm fucked. We were driving down the road on 9W towards Saugerties. We were about 4 miles away from the house (please don't turn, please don't turn) Damn! He turned onto the road that goes to the Rhinecliff Bridge. I hated this bridge. It felt like it was miles long and at least a mile high. It took about 4-5 minutes to get across. Just as we got onto the bridge, I froze like I always do. I always have this fear that the bridge is going to give out or we would go over the side. After about a minute into it, I came out of my frozen state. I looked over at my step-dad. He was just driving along and mumbling something that I couldn't understand. I look closer at him and notice that his right eye was drooping. He snapped his head and turned and looked at me. "Can I help you?" he yelled. He had a crazed look on his face. "What's wrong with your eye?" I asked. He looked in the rearview mirror. "Dammit!!" he yelled. All of a sudden, he jerked the steering wheel to the right. Oh my god! I screamed as we went over the guardrail and over the side of the bridge. It felt like forever as we were falling. I was plastered to my seat. I struggled to look over at my step-dad. He was cackling like a madman. He looked at me again, and his face just fell off. All that was there were wires and mush and two eyes and teeth. Yech! We were getting closer to the water. Then there was the thud. I opened my eyes, got up off the floor and back into bed. Damn, I got to stop eating pizza and watching horror movies before going to bed. (C)2003 MadJaxThoughts
