| Some things you should know about open burning. 1. You burn at your own risk. 2. We cannot give you permission to burn; we can provide you with the laws and guidelines to burn. 3. Failure to follow all laws could result in punishment from any of the governing agencies. 4. ODNR Division of Forestry prohibits outdoor burning in rural areas between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. during the months of March, April, May, October and November. 5. Ohio EPA limits burning for cooking and occupational needs within 1 mile of the city. 6. Outside of the 1-mile area, burning is permitted for waste purposes if other guidelines are followed. 7. No burning within 1000 feet of an inhabited building located off the property where the fire is set, or within 50 feet of any structure, or 15 feet if the fire is in an approved container. 8. The fire cannot obscure visibility for roadways, railroad tracks, or air fields. 9. The size of the fire must be limited to 5 feet by 5 feet and no longer than 3 hours in duration. Have water or an extinguisher handy Avoid windy days Do not burn within 200 feet of any other brush or grass. Stay with the fire until it is out.
