Shelties are not Collies of miniature proportion

Border Collies (Until Shelties) had fullfilled farmers needs,
And they crossed these with smaller, intelligent long-haired breeds

Their resemblance to Collies is apparent and striking
Though to be called "Miniature Collies"
is certainly not to their liking
~~
Alert and rough coated, Shelties are definately long haired
They must remain sound and sturdy, their agility unimpaired
~~
The girls should appear sweet as sugar and spice
But it's the boy's coat that grow in so thick, and long and nice
~~
Staunch loyalty is what to expect
And a show of affection is more than a "Peck"
~~
Reserved towards strangers, but shows no fear in a crowd
Ill temper and snappiness are just not allowed.

Not less and no more than 13 and 16
The only accepted are those size inbetween
~~
Their coat should be double, thick and profuse
Without it a Sheltie could not serve it's use.

Shelties Blue Merle should appear clear as glass
The Sables are certainly like fine antique brass.

A Tri color Sheltie must be black as night
With no red or rust colored hair in sight.
~~
The Bi colors, well they are nothing new
There are only two of those, Bi-Black or Bi-Blue

Their heads should be clean with dark almond shaped eyes
Their expression alert with tipped ears of small size

The Shelties overall body should be moderately long
To be too high or too low at one end would be wrong
~~
No jerky, stiff, stilted or up and down movement
The dancing gait of a pup, must show gradual improvement.

More than all else, must be love and affection
If all you recieve is these last two, you receive,
