In searching for a Happy Healthy Sheltie, beware that ther are many Unscrupulous Breeders, who are more interested in the money than in quality dogs. Be sure your Breeder knows about, and takes steps to eliminate from his/her Breeding Program, such inherited health problems as Hip Dysplasia, Central Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Hypothyroidism, von Willebrands Bleeding Disorder, Sheltie Skin Disorder and Epilepsy. Only buy a puppy with a good temperament and a Health Guarantee, from a Dedicated Breeder who shows successfully in Conformation, Obedience, and or Agility Shows. This "NOTE" from Draco Shelties. Sheltie Size Chart. |
Nora Borgstrom says the following about this chart: The "First Type" (Slower Maturing) appears smaller, finer boned, but still has the chiseled head piece and plenty of muzzel and underjaw. Through puppyhood and even teen stages it appears weedy and no coat to speak of.
Different Sheltie lines do follow different growth patterns, Of course most Shelties today are of a number of lines, and line crossings can produce growth patterns (especially in second generation) that are quite different from either parent.
