Apical meristems give rise to a plant's continual, length-wise growth and its formation of organs.  Apical meristems are found in a plant's lateral and terminal buds and are responsible for the formation of new leaves and flowers, respectively; apical meristems are also found at the end of a plant's roots which form new roots and branch roots.
