What's in a name? : For Jaya

Surnames, middlenames, double initials
Some from regions, some post-nuptial
My friend loses sleep over them
In the middle of a busy afnoon.Ahem!
Dear me, to appease, let me explain
Things are different on the Gangetic plain
Lochan's a middle name, Rajiv's first
The family's surname is covered by dust
Some reveal them, while others hide
Caste names, you see, can be snide
So milady and brother, both from Bihar
Carefully conceal, their origins, by far!
It could be a Mathur, or a blessed Singh
Hiding behind, this darned caste thing.
Just as well then, they're not on East Coast
Where Indie names get a royal roast!
Mukesh turns Micky, Kanwar is Kevin
The accent turns funny, when cultures give in

A minor transgression in Bihari names
I  conclude, then, is a lesser game
Leave her alone, this Fremont Friend

Names are shortened, and sometimes bend!
Call her what you will, let the love stay
Now may I ask: Have I made your day?
