Until
There Are None
You awake with a fright
A nightmare again
But this time I'm there
As your eyes open.
I take you by the hand
The fear drains from your face
You're here with me
In a much safer place.
Our eyes meet
My hand you squeeze
You move close and say
Hold me please.
Your warm body shakes
As I hold you tight
My prayer to God
Take away this fright.
I feel your heart
I caress your back
I kiss your neck
In night's sea of black.
The healing is slow
Still leaving some scars
But when I look in your eyes
You have come so far.
Our friendship has grown
Yet because of it all
You wrestle with the demons
And sometimes there's a wall.
I know it's not the present
We'll deal as it comes
To tear down the walls together
Until there are none.
