FROM NOTHING TO US

Nothing, nothing all around 
No sun or moon or sky or ground, 
Except God's Spirit hovering near 
Over this empty darkness drear. 
So God just said, "let there be light" 
Then called it day and darkness night. 
He said, "it's good!" and that day one. 
But don't leave yet there's more to come. 
Next He created the sky above 
As with it all, was made with love 
So big and wide and yes, so blue 
And said, "it's good!" and that's day two. 
Then part of the sea He made dry land 
For plants to grow and trees to stand. 
Flowers and beauty for all to see 
He said, "it's good" and that's day three. 
He needed two lights for day and night 
So He made the sun so bold and bright 
Then made the moon with a softer glow 
So the stars could shine for us you know. 
Then said, "it's good" and that's day four. 
But don't leave yet, there's plenty more. 
Then God made birds flying in the air 
And fish that swim in you know where. 
Both great and small were made alive 
He said, "it's good" and that's day five. 
Animals came next both big and small 
Tiny little puppies and giraffes so tall. 
He filled the land with animals galore 
And said, "it's good" but there is more. 
For now God said to finish His plan 
In our own image let's make a man. 
He took some dirt from off the ground 
To formed a man from the dirt He'd found 
The breath of life He breathed within 
And He saw a living being begin. 
God put him in charge of all that was made 
In a beautiful garden if the rules He obeyed. 
But God said he should not be alone 
So while he slept God took a bone, 
A rib from his side to make a mate 
So a woman for him, God did create. 
He made it all, no magic tricks 
God said, "it's good" and that's day six. 
When God was finished and all was done 
This seventh day from which He'd begun 
From all His work, He took a rest
Look what He's done, it is the best. 
So when you see all He's made new 
Remember my child, He did it for you.
