"What I like to write is, I know, another person's cliche, because I do like those old castles and gowns and cloaks and rapiers. But what I try to do, and I think a lot of us are trying to do, is use those tropes to say something fresh and new. We tell the old story--honor and justice and mercy can win--but we bring to it the passions of our personal beliefs, and the insights of our hard-won experience." Sherwood Smith

* <-- that means I haven't read it yet. Okay, so looking it over, I haven't read a lot of her books, but I blame that on my poor library system and the publishers that keep taking her books out of print. But Sherwood Smith is very dear to my heart because not only are her books wonderful for young adults, but I met a very good friend because of her books. Sherwood Smith's books are filled with insight and one can tell from reading them that she cares about literature. One of my favorite works of hers is her "Diary of a Henchminion" (see S.S webpage) . Of course this is due to my cynical side, but read it! Her short story "And Now Abideth These Three" (see S.S webpage) is not the best piece of her writing I've seen, but the reason I brought it up is because she uses my name in the story, and it's actually spelt right. ((Can we say arrogant?? This is me afterall. )) I will gloat though that I do own all of the Wren books, except the last one which has not and ::sighs:: probably never will, come out. Perhaps I could somehow net dear Ms. Sherwood Smith and lock her in the dungeon, forcing her to tell us tales for hours on end. Wouldn't that be just fabulous? I thought so myself. Maybe if we're all extremely kind to her she will come and visit us sometime. But seriously, guys, write fanfic. Okay, so you say pshaw to it all, but I know that deep down you all want to keep me entertained. And, as that is the sole purpose of life as we know it, you all better start writing. What else can I tell you?... I first picked up Sherwood Smith's books when I was in 8th grade. I was so enthralled by her books that I was reading them while I was cooking noodles. Now let's think, this was me, and I was cooking, so what of course happened? Exactly, the pot began boiling over, then when I tried to lift it off of the stove the pot got too hot and I dropped it. As a result of this, everything went flying and the libraries precious copies of Crown and Court Duel were (::dun dun duh!::) damaged. Well, as it turned out, this was a good thing. I know, you're asking, "How Madeleine?? Please, tell us! We are hanging onto your every word!" Of course I had to replace the copies of the books, but that meant that I got to keep the old copies. Unfortunately they were a little water-logged for a few hours, but that didn't stop me from reading them. Now, they reside on the floor next to my bed, instead of where they should be, which is in my extremely full bookcase. Now that you've all heard my story, don't you all feel like you've wasted a valuable minute of your life? Sort of like when you see the police come in at the end of the Monty Python movie...

Sherwood Smith's Website This website provides you with not only information about her books, but writing techniques. The writing techniques on her site are excellent and her opinionated riffs are interesting to read.
Cantimoor This site is not updated any more, but if you feel like wandering around the place to waste time, you can go there. (Yes, you have my permission. How gracious of me.)
The Enchanted Forest This is a Crown/Court Duel site (wow, I think the first)!
Castle Tlanth This is an e-group for the Wren/Duel books! I am a member of it, though I cannot inform you on whether it is a decent e-group or not because I have just recently joined it.
Free Vale This site is not very sophisticated and there is not much there yet, but it has promise.
