| "Hydroplane / Rubs"- This is where you use your fader hand (or a spare finger from your record hand) on the actual record against the movement of the vinyl. The idea is that you create enough resistance against movement that the needle doesn't skip but vibrates in the groove causing a wobbly feedback type effect. Chances are if you try this for the first time you'll either skip the needle or you won't get any effect at all. Striking the balance is the key and is something that will only come with practice. Try listening to it on headphones as the effect might be more obvious this way. |
