There was blue light everywhere, stretching out vastly on either side of them and above and below. And then it was all over as fast as it started, they stepped out of the portal and got there first looks at the capital city of Valhala. From the gates they could see the city inside full of shops and trader carts and people. It was all very olden days to them and they all were eager to see more.
"Welcome to Valkara" Jakara said as she dismounted and led Aketa through the gates.
"It's amazing, straight out of a fantasy book" Kevin said walking next to her taking in the different shops.
"Look at the way they dress, its like back in the old days" AJ noticed. "Why aren't you wearing a dress Jakara?"
Jakara looked back "A. Because I was out on patrol and it's not practical in the forest, B. I only wear dresses when I have to at court functions, and C. the most important if you ask me AJ is that I loathe wearing dresses." She looked thoughtful for a moment "AJ is that your real name?" she asked.
AJ shook his head "No, my name is Alexander James but my nickname is AJ. You can call me Alex if you'd like" he said shrugging.
"Thank you, AJ just seems so empty wherein Alex has a deeper feel to it" she said turning back and pointing out some shops of interest to Kevin.
"Hey look Howie, a healer's shop" Brian pointed out.
Howie looked over and smiled "So cool, I mean look you can get whatever you need for you medicines and such there."
Nick drifted off to the side and was looking through a trader's wares "Guys look" he called over to them. He picked up a blue book and opened it "it's a song book" he said showing it to Brian.
Brian looked through some of the songs "Wow, these are good. I mean nothing you could put a dancing beat to or anything, but they are amazing."
"That is five silver crescents good sir" the trader said politely.
"Crescents?" Brian looked back at Jakara.
She smiled and gave the man the money "Crescents are one of the coins used here in Valhala. I'll explain money to you later."
"Oh ok and thanks" Brian replied and gave the book to Nick "You keep it for now."
As they made there way through the city Jakara explained that on the outsides of the city were the shops and trade carts and such and father in a bit were the shopkeeper's houses and the lower class houses. As they ventured further in she pointed out noble and wealthier class homes. After about an hour's trek through the city they came to another set of gates with palace guards stationed. "Jakara! Who are these men?" the guard asked sharply.
"They are strangers from another land and I need to see the queen" she answered just as sharply.
"Strangers to see the queen! You must be joking your highn..." he was cut off by Aketa.
'Listen to me you overgrown, festering piece of dung, give us passage now. We have important information for the queen and I will not stand for this' Aketa said hotly for everyone to hear.
The guard's face paled and he quickly waves them through.
"Aketa" Jakara scolded teasingly.
"I liked the whole festering piece of dung part" Nick said rubbing her left flank affectionately.
'Thank you, and I'm sorry Jakara but he was giving us a hard time and you need to see the queen and put in a request for them to be trained and bonded with companions' Aketa said quickly.
"I know and I'm on my way now. Will you take them out to Marigold Field to relax until I get back?" she asked rubbing her companion's nose softly.
'Like you needed to ask' Aketa said pushing Jakara's hand away from her nose.
I'll be back you guys, I just need to take care of something with the queen and see about your trainings. Relax with Aketa till I get back and don't get into trouble Nick" she said with a smile as she walked into the palace.
"Why'd she say that to me?" Nick pouted.
"She's smart that's why" Kevin said dragging him behind Aketa towards the fields.
