Season Summary
Bullwinkle Division
The San Francisco 49'ers ended the previous season in 2000 by defeating the Minnesota Vikings
in the 2000 semifinal game. This year they ended it by defeating them in the title game.
The Bengals shook off a horrible start and finished .500. For the third season in a row, the Houston
Oilers had a non-winning season. Buffalo managed to break their team win record by winning 3 games.
Lucky Charms Division
Minnesota faced their biggest rival, the team that they couldn't beat last season (1998),
in the opening game. Minnesota missed two short to medium field goals in the final quarter
that would have won the game. Minnesota settled for a tie, and went on to win their remaining nine
games for an undefeated regular season. Denver had their ninth consecutive winning season and playoff
appearance. Cleveland struggled to a third place finish, and Kansas City was horrible.
2000 Title Game
Minnesota came out cold, and went four and out. San Fran slapped 7 on the board. The last drive
of the half for Minnesota ended at the San Fran 2 yard line. San Fran held a 21-7 halftime lead.
Minnesota cut the San Fran lead to 28-21 in the second half. San Francisco drove to the Minnesota
30 yard line in the final minute, and on third down threw an awful pass to the running back on the
cross pass play, that hit the Minnesota defender in the chest, and if picked would have been returned
for a score. After that near disaster, San Fran kicks a 47 yard field goal and ices the game.
