Stanford Takes Frame-Skip Bowl I
Down 18-8 with 45 seconds left in the half, and no timeouts, the Jayhawks drove to the Stanford 8 yard line and spiked the ball with one second remaining, and kicked a 25 yard FG to make it 18-11 at the half. Stanford received in the 2nd half, and drove into Kansas territory. The Kansas safety #22 would then intercept Stanford and take it 75 yards for a TD and following a 2pt convert Kansas took a 19-18 lead.
After back and forth scoring, this would come down to crunch time. Kansas would score with only 1 minute remaining, giving them a 33-29 lead over Stanford. On the following Stanford drive, Kansas was playing a tough pass defense, nearly picking off Stanford. Stanford was in trouble. On a key third down play, Stanford nailed a 72 yard pass over the middle through Kansas triple coverage (hence the name "Frame-Skip-Bowl"). This put Stanford on the Kansas 8 yard line, and Stanford would score with 18 seconds remaining, making it 37-34.
One last chance for Kansas. After bringing in the slow QB from the FG offense, and forgeting to put in the shotgun audible, Kansas chose to go with a pro-form set. The result was a 12 yard sack, and a safety, ending this game 39-34.
