Clemson marched down the field to take a 7-0 lead. Pitt was stopped by the Clemson defense all day and their only TD until the final seconds was a punt return in the first half which tied the game at 7 for the half.

The second half saw great defense by both teams. Pitt was held to a field goal, and with Clemson trailing 10-7 late in the 4th quarter, a fake punt was called from the Clemson 5 yard line. The punter standing in his own end zone threw a deep pass which was completed and took Clemson down to the Pitt 40 yard line. Clemson converted a few plays later and had the PAT blocked. Pitt would now drive down the field with precious time ticking away, they converted a 4th & 13 from the Clemson 15 for a touchdown to win the game. Once again the Pitt Panthers survived another day with their perfect record and #1 Ranking.
