little chained up ecstasies
by jeremy cannon
Shadows forced into tiny little pens,
creatures crawl out of their lucid dens,
and they bring the chains.
I tighten up in a crude little ball,
and then the walls start to fall,
and they bring their chains.
I'm their desire, I'm their hope,
they plan to make me float.
I have the key hidden somewhere in my dresser,
as they chain me up, there's no room for prayer.
Walls cascade down on me, brick by brick,
clocks tick by quick, tick tock tick,
and they bring their chains.
The lock is fastened and I am caught,
my afterthought will soon be naught,
and they bring their chains.
Cold, cold links of metal tighten against my skin,
Breaking free is a loose thought to extend.
And as I wrestle myself and chain up my clots,
the reason it's naught is lack of the afterthought.
