| This page is for the home hobbyist. Crochet, beauty care supplies, and candlemaking are some of our fun topics! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
We will explore many subjects, feel free to add a new one if you hobby is not depicted here. I will be adding a message board shortly, look for that! Bath Salt Recipe: 1/4 cup Epsom Salt 1/4 cup sea salt 2 T glycerin 3 drops essential oils. Shake well, store in sealable airtight container. Enjoy! Hand Dipped Tapers: 4oz melted beeswax 4oz melted paraffin candle color (crayons work!) scent (oil based only) Tie wick around pencil, leaving both sides dangling. Dip into wax, let cool slightly, dip again. Repeat until tapers are desired diameter. Let cool overnight. The mixture of paraffin and beeswax gives a more economical taper that still has a long burning life.

Zigzag Blanket or Throw: Chain the width you want your finished throw to be making sure it is a multiple of four. Single crochet in first four ch, single crochet four in fifth ch, repeat to end. I like to work in just the back loops of rows, to give a grooved look to this. Works great with marled or scrap yarn.

Easy Lipgloss: Combine 1 T vaseline, 1 T unscented castor oil, 1 T mineral oil in small heatproof jar. Add 2 T beeswax. Heat to melted, being careful not to overheat, if you microwave use short increments this will explode if you heat it too quickly. When it is liquid, stir in your essential oils. Pour into small jars. Store in a cool dry place. I love strawberry and peppermint.

Spaghetti Sauce Candles: Save old Ragu or similar glass jars. Clean thoroughly and dry. Heat candle wax on the stove, I sell pure beeswax, but for home I usually combine beeswax and paraffin for economic reasons no more than half paraffin will still give a hard burning candle at less cost. Color the wax with two brick crayons and one drop of blue food color. Pour into jars. Let cool, pour into the well next to the wick until the top is flat. Pour any extra wax into those disposable glad containers, when it is cool it will pop out like a tablet and keep for later use, and you will still have the container! Scent to taste, this color seems to go well with bayberry or spiced apple to my mind. They last forever, I have one that is only burned halfway down and it is lit every evening for a couple of hours!

Fizzing Bath Bombs 1 part citric acid 1 part baking soda 2 parts cornstarch Mix well, then add 2 T glycerin. will be like damp flour. Compress into molds let dry overnight. Unmold carefully! Spritz with witch hazel and bake at 175 for 10 minutes, watch them the whole time, charring comes easily to these! Alternatively, roll into balls, spritz with witch hazel and bake right away.

Melt and pour soap 6 oz clear melt and pour glycerin soap 20 drops peppermint eo 10 drops tea tree eo Melt the soap and add the oils, pour into small molds like ice cube trays. Let cool, cure on rack for 2 weeks. This is a great shaving bar, legs or faces! Must cure though, to mellow the oils out or they will burn the skin. I tried cutting back on the amounts but the bar didn't feel as good for shaving per my husband.

Lotion Bars 2 oz beeswax 2 oz sweet almond oil 2 oz coconut oil combine and melt. Color and scent to taste, ice cube trays make great molds for these. Rub all over for a great skin softener. I like 2 drops red wax dye and 1 drop blue dye to make a lavender color, then scent with lavender e.o. Great!
