C.O.P.E.
Comforting Other Parents (with) Encouragement

The Mission of C.O.P.E.
Our mission is to take words of encouragement and put them into action. When a parent loses a child from SIDS isolation form the outside world seems to be a natural occurrance. This is even a bigger issue if health professionals and police departments are not aware of how a SIDS parent needs to be comforted. C.O.P.E. bridges that gap that often result from some situations. The main goal of this program is to make contact with newly bereaved parents and comfort them with the fact that they do not need to handle a SIDS death alone.

What we do:
~ Maintain a relationship with hospitals, police stations, ect.; as well as non-SIDS related support groups. (Example: SHARE)

~ Offer one on one contact with SIDS parents in our local areas.

~ Establish SIDS awareness in our communities by delivering brochures to local hospitals, police stations, doctors offices, etc.

~ Follow up with SIDS parents as they continue to journey through their first year of grief.

Cope Volunteer Duties:
~ Establish contact with police stations, health dept., non-SIDS related groups, etc. in your community.

~ Make a commitment to serve as a C.O.P.E. contact. This includes one on one support with newly bereaved SIDS parents in your area.

~ Place MAD AT SIDS brochures and SIDS resource packets at local hospitals, police stations, etc. and keep them supplied when running low on materials.
