Dilip Kumar, Rekha to be honoured at MAMI film fest

Thespian Dilip Kumar, actress Rekha and cinematographer V K Murthy will be felicitated at the fourth international film festival organised by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Images (mami) from November 21.

Dilip kumar will be felicitated with the lifetime achievement award during the opening ceremony by information broadcasting minister Sushma Swaraj while Rekha will be honoured for her contribution to Hindi films. V K Murthy will receive the Kodak award for technical excellence, noted film maker and chairman of MAMI Shyam Benegal told a press conference at IMAX, the main venue of the eight day film festival in central Mumbai, here today.

The festival has been divided into 11 sections and as many as 145 films, both Indian and foreign, will be screened, Benegal informed. The opening ceremony on November 21 will be followed by the screening of Ashok Amritraj's 'Bandits' starring Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton and Cate Blanchett. The festival will draw to a close with the screening of mira nair's award winning film 'Monsoon Wedding'.

MAMI has included two new sections this year -- treasure from archives which includes Marathi film 'Murliwala', retrieved by the national film archives. Directed by Baburao painter for Maharashtra film company in 1927, the film had Lalji Gokhale playing the title role of Krishna along with a young V Shantaram in a key role. Gokhale, despite his ill-health, has consented to come down to Mumbai for the festival and will be honoured before the film's screening, Benegal said.
