"a great star, a true star. She never was or will be anything less or anything else"

Hi! My name's Goldy, I'm 15 and I've been a huge Rekha fan ever since the beginning of 2001. I remember seeing the ads for Zubeidaa and I thought Rekha was so beautiful. At the time, Karisma Kapoor had been my favorite actress, so I just had to see Zubeidaa. However, when I saw the film it was Rekha's performance as Mandira Devi that made a huge impression on me. I had never seen anyone on screen like her before. I was truly amazed. After seeing that movie, I just had to learn more about Rekha so I found some more information and pictures online and then started collecting stuff from newspapers and magazines about her. Soon, it was clear that she was my new favorite actress.
Zubeidaa was not the first Rekha movie I'd ever seen. The first was Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, which was in my parents' ancient videos collection. I didn't really think much about her when I saw that film - I just thought she was just another pretty face from yesteryears. I was surprised that she still looked so good in Zubeidaa. So I guess it's true when people say Rekha has become more beautiful and graceful with age. Also, when I was a child, my family used to watch the weekly Namaste America show and they used to play "In Ankhon Ki Masti" like every single week. It was my mom's favorite song and Rekha was my mom's favorite actress too, so we always used to watch it. I wasn't into Indian movies at the time, but I still remember watching the song on TV. It also left an impression on me because the song and Rekha were so beautiful. It wasn't until 10 years later that I actually saw Umrao Jaan, when I was a huge fan.
Why do I like Rekha? She is such a role model and idol for me. Not only is she a great actress, but she seems like such a great person. Now, whoever knows me knows that I am NOT fond of celebrities - they are too fake: showing off their homes, money, and acting strangely and stupidy. But Rekha is "a great star, a true star. She never was or will be anything less or anything else" (George Sanders in All About Eve, 1950). I admire her accomplishments in the industry and her originality. She has an opinion about everything and is the least superficial - She is genuine. It's like she's in a class all by herself. I also admire how she has kept acting through the years and making classic films. She has also kept a dignified public image - something VERY hard to do.

My Favorite English Films: Definitely All About Eve (1950) and Rebecca (1940). I am a huge fan of old American films and Alfred Hitchcock Films. Both are heroine-oriented and beautifully made. It would be cool if these ever got made into Hindi films, of course with Rekha in the leads! My other favorite is Titanic (1997) which surprised me, I didn't think it was going to be that good.

My favorite Rekha movie: I like most of her movies, but I especially liked Umrao Jaan and Mother.

My Favorite Non-Rekha Films: Pardes, Taal, and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

My least favorite Rekha movie(s): Kalyug - the most boring movie ever. I don't know why they even had to make this movie. Both Saajan Ki Saheli and Soutan Ki Beti were directed by Saawan Kumar and are really dumb even for 80s movies. Seriously, DO NOT WATCH THESE if you already haven't.

My favorite Rekha characters: (not in a particular order) Zohra from Muqaddar Ka Sikandar , Chanda from Sawan Bhadon, Asha Britannia from Mother, Umrao Jaan from Umrao Jaan, Kamini from Mujhe Meri Biwi Se Bachaao

My Favorite Actress(es): Rekha of course, but other than her I also like Madhuri Dixit, Urmila Matondkar, Karisma Kapoor, and Kajol.

My Favorite Actor(s): Shah Rukh Khan and Fardeen Khan

Least Favorite Actor and Actress: All three Bachchans, Kareena Kapoor, Salman Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Sanjay Dutt, and Aishwarya Rai. I seriously cannot watch any of their films.

Websites: My first site was about Sailor Moon, which I really liked about three years ago.  I also own a sailor moon graphics website that I haven't touched in two years, and a Geri Halliwell website that I don't update anymore either. Nowadays I spend my time working exclusively on Madame Re.

Music: I prefer filmi Indian music over American, mainly because Indian music has a much better beat, vocals, and lyrics. Also, Indian singers can emote much better with their voices than the American singers. I like Asha Bhosle, Alka Yagnik, and Udit Narayan most, and for English stars I like Geri Halliwell and the Cranberries.
